Privacy Policy
By default, your child's learning data stays on your device. Squize only sends data to our servers if you choose optional features โ Stay in the Loop (email updates) or Connect to Parent (device pairing for live sync). See the sections below for exactly what is stored and how to disconnect.
1. Permissions We Request
To deliver its core functionality, Squize requires the following permissions, depending on your device:
- Usage Access (UsageStats) โ Android: to track how long each monitored app is used each day
- Display over other apps (Overlay) โ Android: to show the challenge screen when a usage limit is reached
- Screen Time / Family Controls โ iPhone and iPad: to know when a monitored app is opened and to show the challenge screen when a limit is reached. You pick the apps in Apple's own picker and Squize receives only opaque tokens โ it never learns which apps you chose, and that selection never leaves your device.
- Notifications: to remind children and parents about daily limits and progress
These permissions are used exclusively for the features described. You can revoke them at any time in your device settings, though doing so will disable the relevant features.
2. Data Stored Locally
Unless you enable an optional cloud feature in section 3, the following information is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers:
- Per-app daily usage totals
- Challenge attempt history and mastery scores
- Child profiles (name, age band, avatar)
- Parent-configured rules and app limits
On iPhone and iPad this is the only place your data lives. The iOS version of Squize has no account, no email registration and no device pairing, and it sends no learning data, usage data or Screen Time data to us or to anyone else.
Deleting the app removes this data from the device. If you had previously paired devices, cloud copies described in section 3 may remain until you unlink or request deletion.
3. Optional Cloud Features
Both features below are entirely optional. You can use Squize's core screen-time limits and educational challenges without signing in or pairing devices.
3.1 Stay in the Loop
If you choose Track performance in Settings or sign up from the Insights welcome flow, you may register with an email address or Google account. We store the following in Firebase:
- Email address and display name (if provided by Google)
- Sign-up method (email or Google) and registration timestamp
This registers you to receive progress updates and news about Squize. It does not by itself upload your child's usage statistics or challenge results. You can disconnect at any time via Sign out & disconnect in the app, which removes your registration profile and signs you out of Firebase.
3.2 Connect to Parent (Device Pairing)
If a parent device and child device are linked with a pairing code (Settings โ Connect to Parent), selected data syncs through Firebase Cloud Firestore in a private family space tied to the parent account:
- Child profiles โ name, age band, avatar, XP/level, streaks, and subject mastery scores
- Parent rules โ monitored apps, time limits, challenge settings, and learning-category preferences
- Daily activity โ challenge attempts, practice sessions, unlock events, and monitored app usage times
- Device metadata โ device label, app version, last-seen timestamp, and pairing status
- Subscription state โ whether premium features are active (so linked devices share access)
The child device uploads activity data; the parent device receives it for the Insights dashboard. Child devices use a limited anonymous sign-in for pairing only โ a parent email is not required on the child's phone.
You can unlink a device at any time from Settings โ Connect to Parent โ Unlink this device. Unlinking stops sync and removes that device's record. It does not delete your Stay in the Loop email registration or erase historical family data. To delete cloud data entirely, email support@squize.app.
4. Data We Collect
4.1 Anonymous Analytics
We collect anonymous, aggregated analytics to understand which features are used and to fix bugs. This data is not linked to your identity and includes:
- Feature interaction events (e.g. "challenge completed", "app added to watchlist")
- Crash reports and performance metrics
- General device category (OS version, screen size range) โ no device identifiers
Analytics and crash reporting are collected on Android only. The iPhone and iPad version of Squize contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
4.2 Account & Subscription Data
If you create a parent account, register for Stay in the Loop, pair devices, or subscribe, we additionally collect:
- Email address โ for account login, Stay in the Loop updates, subscription management, and support replies
- Subscription status โ to determine which features are unlocked (verified via RevenueCat; synced to linked devices when pairing is active)
- Firebase user ID โ to associate your account, family sync space, and device pairing records
Subscriptions purchased on iPhone and iPad are processed entirely by Apple, and subscriptions purchased through Google Play are processed entirely by Google. We do not receive or store any payment card details. See Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy for details.
5. Third-Party Services
Squize uses the following third-party services, each with a limited, specific purpose:
Firebase (Google) โ Android only
Authentication (email, Google, and anonymous child sessions), Cloud Firestore (optional family sync and Stay in the Loop registration), crash reporting, and performance monitoring. Firebase Privacy
RevenueCat
Subscription entitlement verification and billing status on both platforms. We never receive or store payment card details โ payments are processed by the App Store or by Google Play. RevenueCat Privacy
Apple App Store & StoreKit โ iPhone and iPad only
Handles all subscription payments on iPhone and iPad. We never receive or store payment card information. Apple Privacy Policy
Google Play Billing โ Android only
Handles all subscription payments. We never receive or store payment card information. Google Privacy Policy
Google Sign-In โ Android only
Used when you choose Google to register for Stay in the Loop or set up a parent device. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Website Analytics (squize.app only)
Our marketing website uses standard analytics to measure page visits. This applies only to the website, not to the Android or iOS app.
No third-party data is sold or shared beyond the purposes listed above.
6. Your Rights
- Delete local data: uninstall the app โ all on-device data is gone instantly
- Disconnect Stay in the Loop: use Sign out & disconnect in Settings โ Track performance to remove your email registration
- Unlink paired devices: use Unlink this device in Settings โ Connect to Parent to stop cloud sync for that device
- Delete account & cloud data: email us at support@squize.app and we will delete your account, family sync data, and any server-side records within 30 days
- Revoke permissions: adjust app permissions at any time in Android Settings โ Apps โ Squize
- Access your data: contact us to receive a summary of any data we hold about your account
7. Children's Privacy
Squize is a tool managed by parents, not by children directly. Child profiles are created and controlled by a parent account. When devices are not paired, challenge and usage data stays only on the device where it was recorded. When Connect to Parent is enabled, the child's device transmits activity data to the parent's linked family account so parents can view Insights remotely. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children outside this parent-controlled setup.
8. Data Retention
- On-device data is retained until you uninstall the app
- Stay in the Loop registration data is deleted when you disconnect in the app, or upon account-deletion request
- Cloud family data (profiles, activity, device records) is retained while devices remain linked and for up to 12 months after the last linked device is unlinked, unless you request earlier deletion
- Account email and subscription records are retained while your account is active and for up to 12 months afterward for fraud-prevention purposes
- Anonymous analytics data is retained in aggregated form indefinitely
9. Policy Updates
If we make material changes to this policy we will notify you via the app or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
10. Contact
