Privacy Policy
Your child's learning data stays on your device. Squize does not transmit usage statistics or challenge results to our servers. The only data we collect is what's strictly necessary to run the service.
1. Permissions We Request
To deliver its core functionality, Squize requires the following Android permissions:
- Usage Access (UsageStats): to track how long each monitored app is used each day
- Display over other apps (Overlay): to show the challenge screen when a usage limit is reached
- Notifications: to remind children and parents about daily limits and progress
These permissions are used exclusively for the features described. You can revoke them at any time in your device settings, though doing so will disable the relevant features.
2. Data That Lives on Your Device
The following information is stored locally on the device and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Per-app daily usage totals
- Challenge attempt history and mastery scores
- Child profiles (name, age band, avatar)
- Parent-configured rules and app limits
Deleting the app removes all of this data permanently.
3. Data We Collect
3.1 Anonymous Analytics
We collect anonymous, aggregated analytics to understand which features are used and to fix bugs. This data is not linked to your identity and includes:
- Feature interaction events (e.g. "challenge completed", "app added to watchlist")
- Crash reports and performance metrics
- General device category (OS version, screen size range) — no device identifiers
3.2 Account & Subscription Data
If you create a parent account or subscribe, we collect:
- Email address — used for account login, subscription management, and support replies
- Subscription status — to determine which features are unlocked
Subscriptions purchased through Google Play are processed entirely by Google. We do not receive or store any payment card details. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
4. Third-Party Services
Squize uses the following third-party services, each with a limited, specific purpose:
Firebase (Google)
Authentication, crash reporting, and performance monitoring. Collects anonymous device and session data used solely for app stability. Firebase Privacy
Google Play Billing
Handles all subscription payments. We never receive or store payment card information. Google Privacy Policy
Website Analytics (squize.app only)
Our marketing website uses standard analytics to measure page visits. This applies only to the website, not the Android app.
No third-party data is sold or shared beyond the purposes listed above.
5. Your Rights
- Delete local data: uninstall the app — all on-device data is gone instantly
- Delete account data: email us at support@squize.app and we will delete your account and any server-side data within 30 days
- Revoke permissions: adjust app permissions at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Squize
- Access your data: contact us to receive a summary of any data we hold about your account
6. Children's Privacy
Squize is a tool managed by parents, not by children directly. Child profiles are created and controlled by a parent account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The challenge and usage data associated with a child profile is stored only on the parent's device.
7. Data Retention
- On-device data is retained until you uninstall the app
- Account email and subscription records are retained while your account is active and for up to 12 months afterward for fraud-prevention purposes
- Anonymous analytics data is retained in aggregated form indefinitely
8. Policy Updates
If we make material changes to this policy we will notify you via the app or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
9. Contact
